Friends and Acquaintances in New Orleans early 1900s

Miscellaneous for anyone interested:

Friends and Acquaintances in New Orleans early 1900s, or some of these may have been family as well, which is why I’ve made the page on cousins and extended.

It seems most of the Cinisi immigrants at that time were a little lower in the French Quarter, around the 500 and 600 blocks. Where Giuiseppe Biundo, our ancestor was living, in the 1100 block was more of a Cefalu neighborhood. In fact there were Serio’s and D’Antoni’s within in the blocks on and right around them.

Anthony Sclafani (born in 1858) was a witness at Giuseppe Biundo and Giroloma Pardo’s marriage.

In 1900 (according to census) he lived at 528 St Philip. He’d immigrated in 1897 and was listed in 1900 as a day laborer.

May 12, 1902 there was a newspaper article written which stated that Antonio Carroll was the proprietor of a restaurant there, and that there had been a shooting and Gaetano Biondo (u) and Giuseppi Giannola.)

1910 census – 1120 Decatur
Blacksmith – Retail Merchant

In 1911 Antonino Scalafani was listed at 610 Dumaine in the city directory, same address that Giuseppe Impastato was listed in the 1900 directory with his macaroni factory.
If what I’ve heard about Giuseppe Biundo working in some way at or with a macaroni factory when he first arrived to New Orleans, that would likely be the place since both Giuseppe Impastato and Antonio Sclafani were witnesses for his marriage.

(A Salvadore Bartolotta was listed as living at 610 Dumaine in the 1908 directory, and Bartolotta is a name in our family tree as well and also from Cinisi.)

Tujague was also listed as living at 610 Dumaine in 1902 when Impastato would have been there.

Antonino Scalfani (spelled different on different documents) actually bought the property at 610 Dumaine in 1906, and then sold it in 1908.
_______

Giuseppi Impastato was also listed as a witness on the marriage license for Giuseppe Biundo and Girolama Pardo. In 1900 he was listed in the city directory as having a macaroni factory at 610 Dumaine.

(Jacob Cusimano is listed on the same page as having a macaroni factory at 619 Dumaine.)
