Strawberry Farm

At the time of Giuseppe Biundo’s death, they owned a strawberry farm in Tangipahoa Parish, near Independence.

It was set up for auction after his death, but it appears that Girolama Pardo was able to purchase it back on July 25th, 1911 by placing the last and highest bid of twenty six hundred and ten dollars ($2,610), which she paid in cash.

That may have been where she first lived with Joe Biundo and Jacomina when she moved to Independence, prior to marrying John Genovese and moving into town.

I’m not certain though. It’s confusing as it goes back and forth. Below are the court papers if anyone is interested. They appeared publicly in Ancestry.com so I figured it would be okay to include them here in the password protected section of this site, but can remove them if requested. They’re still available publicly on Ancestry though. I didn’t add them there; I think it just got added there as public record. I’m including them here, at least temporarily, if anyone wishes to figure out if they retained the land and where precisely it was located.

They do seem to have managed to spell his first name wrong throughout. It should have been Giuseppe, not Guiseppe.

Summary

Taormina (written incorrectly as Paormina in some of the documents) had tried to take control of the succession, claiming that Girolama Pardo was not qualified. He was unsuccessful though. But he did hold some of the creditor notes so he was a factor in some of the proceedings.
(The Taormina’s and Uddo’s went on to form Progresso Foods.)
